About us

The School Directory is an online database designed to allow schools to access what they need easily and quickly. It is established and run by educators, for educators.

Firstly, it is a tool for teachers and SNAs to connect with schools in their area in a new and exciting way, aiming to ensure that all school vacancies are filled with ease. Our unique system allows you to build a profile to include a personal Bio (including a video Bio), your C.V.,Garda Vetting and more, and allows you to share your availability with schools looking for substitutes.

For Principals, our system connects you with teachers and SNAs and gives you all you need before appointing substitutes in your school.

The website aims to maximise employment opportunities at primary level while also making the often difficult search for substitutes as simple as possible. A weekly updated calendar of availability together with tools to search by location ensures that this website works for both the schools and the teachers.

The other side of this website is, as our name suggests, a directory of businesses that sell directly to schools or provide many of the services that schools require on a daily basis. The aim of this directory is to have everything a school needs at the click of a mouse.

If you are a school principal looking for a new photocopier or a plumber to fix that emergency, or you are a teacher looking for the latest addition to your classroom, The School Directory has you covered.  Searches can be filtered locally or nationally and businesses can build their own profile, upload samples of work, supply brochures online as well as providing basic contact details and much more.

Who are we?

The School Directory was established by Patrick and Ann Marie O’Connell in 2016.

Both Patrick and Ann Marie work full time in the education sector. Patrick currently works as Principal of a large primary school in Cork. He completed his teacher training with Hibernia College in 2007 and has a Masters in Education with CLEO Cork and the University of Hull. Ann Marie currently works as a secondary school teacher in Cork City, having completed the Bachelor of Commerce in 2006 and the Higher Diploma in Education the following year.

The idea for this website began with discussions at home regarding our own experiences and daily frustrations.

“Finding a substitute teacher/SNA can be very difficult at times. The alternative facilities available at the time were simply not working for me as a principal. Also both Ann Marie and I have spent time during our career working as substitute teachers. We are all too familiar with the difficult task of sending out CVs and the time spent travelling from school to school. As a Principal meeting substitute teachers and SNAs on an almost daily basis, we felt there had to be a better way for everyone involved.” – Patrick

Also the frustrating search for suppliers and service providers gave us the idea of a centralised database. “We believed there was a more effective way for schools and those who work there to find what they needed and for businesses to reach their market directly. We want to make the link between the two more efficient.”

We hope that our website will benefit all involved in the education sector and are excited about this forthcoming venture.
